After the U23 AFCON draws,  Uganda national Under-20 team, the Hippos confirmed their group stage opponents.

Following the Friday draws in Cairo Egypt, the Hippos were pooled in group B alongside Central African Republic, South Sudan and Congo Brazzaville.

Uganda would like to replicate the 2021 continental youth competition performance having ended as finalist losing 2-0 to eventual winners Ghana in Mauritania.

Skipped Skipper Daniel Afriyie scored for Ghana. At the same tournament, Uganda’s forward Derrick Kakooza was top scorer with five (5) goals and Uganda won the fair play award while Ghana’s Abdul Fatawu Issahaku was the MVP.

Uganda also qualified as the champions of the Zone 5 CECAFA region after a 2-1 cup final win against neighbors South Sudan

Uganda rallied from a goal down to defeat South Sudan 2-1 at the Al Hilal Stadium.

Isa Bugembe cancelled out Felix Abishai opener for South Sudan before Titus Ssematimba won it for Uganda in the second half.

The U20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt  2023 that  will be played between 19 February and 11 March 2023 shall feature 12 Nations.

These qualified Nations include hosts Egypt, Tunisia, Nigeria, Benin, Senegal, The Gambia, Uganda, South Sudan, Mozambique, Zambia, Central African Republic and Congo.
