Uganda Cranes AFCON dream shattered despite a win against Niger
It’s end of road as Uganda Cranes failed to qualify for the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals to be held in Ivory Coast.
The 2024 AFCON will run from 13th January – 11th February.
The Uganda Cranes picked a 2-0 win against Niger in an epic tie at Marakesh stadium in Morocco.
Defenders Aziz Kayondo and Joseph Ochaya scored as Uganda Cranes earned maximum points away from home.
However, the win wasn’t enough for the Cranes to qualify for the 2024 AFCON tournament after a goalless draw in the game between Algeria and Tanzania.
Uganda need to win it’s tie against Niger at the same time playing for Algeria’s win against Tanzania’s Taifa Stars to qualify for the finals.
Had Algeria managed any positive result from the Tanzania encounter , the Cranes would be in the final after their victory in Morocco.
Algeria and Tanzania qualified for the final tournament from the group after garnering 16 and 8 points to finish 1st and second respectively.
