Fortebet Real Stars Awards: Express FC duo headline May nominations

An Express FC duo, that is, in the stylish Eric Kambale and goal custodian, Mathias Muwanga, have been nominated for May’s Best Player in the ForteBet Real Stars monthly sports awards in the football category.

Express FC forward, Eric Kambale, managed to score eight goals in the six games he played for Express in the month of May, that is, both in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League and the Stanbic Uganda Cup.

All eight goals have come from the games played in the league, as he was not on the scoresheet when Express and KCCA FC settled for a goalless draw in the first leg of their quarterfinal in the Uganda Cup.

Kambale’s goals came in Express FC’s wins against Police (2-0) at Wankulukuku stadium, then a hat-trick in the 3-2 win away at Kyetume in Nakisunga, before his brace over Kitara in a 4-0 win at home. He was also on target as Express defeated UPDF and Busoga United 1-0 and 4-0 respectively.

Mathias Muwanga is another nominee for the accolade, following his sublime performances in the month of May.

The goal custodian kept four (4) cleansheets in the five games he has been in between the goal posts. He kept cleansheets as Express beat Police (2-0), Busoga United (4-0), UPDF (1-0), and Kitara (4-0). He only conceded against Kyetume in a 3-2 victory for Express.

URA FC’s forward, Stephen Dese Mukwala, who is also shortlisted for the award, scored (4) goals in the five games he featured in the league. He scored a brace as URA defeated UPDF by a 2-1 scoreline, and was also on the scoresheet as URA beat Police and Onduparaka with the same scoreline, that is, 3-1. His performances have kept URA FC in title contention.

The Hockey category has Thomas Opio (Wanainchi SC), Timothy Ntumba (Weatherhead) and Charles Ekapolon (Weatherhead goalkeeper).

Wanainchi SC striker, Opio Thomas, scored ten (10) goals in four (4) games. Two goals came against Vikings, 3 against MUK Stingers, 3 against MUBS, and 2 against Ageist City Lions.

Thomas Opio’s performance has helped his team lead the National Hockey League table with twelve (12) games in four (4) games.

Timothy Ntumba from Weatherhead scored eight (8) goals in the four (4) games played in May, with five (5) goals coming against Historicals and three (3) coming against MUBS, before firing blanks in the last games.

Charles Ekapolon played four (4) games for Weatherhead in May, finishing the first three with cleansheets, but conceding three (3) goals in the last game , as his team lost 2-3 to Kampala Hockey Club Stallions.

In the Basketball category, JKL Lady Dolphins’ Hope Akello, Ndejje Angels’ Samuel Ajaka, and KIU Titans’ Aden Faisal are May’s nominees.

Hope Akello had the league-leading average for points and rebounds, that is, 18.5 points and 12.3 rebounds in four (4) rounds. All four were victories, which keep up the team’s shine this season.

Samuel Ajaka averaged 18.2 points in four (4) games in comparison to Faisal Aden who averaged 20 points. KIU titans won four (4) games in a row, and went into second on the table.
