The Uganda Rugby Union President Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe confirmed that Mandela National Stadium, Namboole will partially be the home ground of Rugby Cranes.

Before hosting the 2024 Africa Rugby Cup at Namboole, Uganda has been hosting their home games at Legends in Lugogo, Kampala.

While addressing media at Namboole in a special press conference held on Tuesday, 23, July, the president confirmed to media that for a meantime, Namboole will be the home ground for Rugby Cranes and even the league games if possible.

“As of now, Namboole is partially home ground for Rugby Cranes, but the game is growing, so it will not be enough, we need to get much more facilities like Namboole because the game is growing so fast.” He said

We want to see a league game played on a surface like here. So Namboole is a maiden one but to answer the question, I don’t think it the only future for Uganda Rugby Union, we need to extend further.”

In the same press conference, the Rugby Africa President, Herbert Mensah hailed the talent and Uganda has.

“We look forward to hosting you and enjoying yet another beautiful day of rugby,” stated Godwin Arinaitwe Kayangwe, President of the Uganda Rugby Union, in an official announcement. “We apologize for any inconveniences caused.”

The 2024 edition of the Rugby Africa Cup is a precursor to the Rugby World Cup qualifiers set to take place next year. The bottom placed team will be relegated from the qualifiers.
