Algeria defeated Uganda Senior Women’s National team, the Crested Cranes, 2-1 in the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The first leg tie was played at FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Wednesday evening, the 20th September 2023.

The Algerians scored second half goals through Imaine Chabel and Habiba Karchouni, while Fauzia Najjemba converted from a penalty spot for Uganda’s consolation.

Chabel headed home a corner kick in the 50th minute for Algeria to take a 1-0 lead.

Three minutes later, Karchouni scored the second to extend Algeria’s lead to 2-0

Russian based forward Fauzia Najjemba converted from the penalty mark to turn the score to 2-1 at full time.

Left footed silky forward Aminah Nababi won a penalty for Uganda late into the game in the 89th minute after being fouled in the penalty area.

The return leg tie will be played in Oran, Algeria on September 26, 2023.

The overall winner after two legs will face either Burundi or Ethiopia in the second round.

The return leg in Algeria shall be a two goals must win margin for the Crested Cranes to qualify for the next round

A 2-1 win for Uganda in Algeria shall force an extra time and penalties to decide the winner over two legs
