CECAFA: Uganda pitted in group A alongside Tanzania and DR Congo
Uganda Kobs has been pitted in group A of the 2021 CECAFA U23 Challenge Cup alongside Arc rivals Tanzania and DR Congo in the draws held on Tuesday 13th July 2021 in Dar-el-salaam, Tanzania.
Hosts Ethiopia compose group B with Burundi and Eritrea while group C is made up of Djibouti, South Sudan and Kenya.
This year’s tournament attracted nine teams following the last minute withdrawal of Rwanda.
The nine team tournament kicks off on 17th July and climax on 1st August 2021 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Defending champions Uganda who won the championship in 2019 as hosts have had a one week training camp in Saudi Arabia where they also played two trial games.
The Molly Byekwaso coached Kobs played for a goalless draw in the first trial game before losing 2-0 to Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.
This year’s edition should be played by players under the age of 23 with only three senior players allowed per nation as recently decided by the CECAFA committee.
