Uganda’s Rugby legends will face off with Kenya this Saturday, the 8th June 2024 at Kings Park Arena in Bweyogere.

During a friendly rugby affair, the focus will be on strengthening ties between the Uganda and Kenya rugby community when the second edition of the rugby legends touring game kicks off this weekend.

The first leg is set for this Saturday at King’s Park arena, Bweyogerere with the return fixture due 28th September in Nairobi, Kenya.

Uganda rugby legends flyhalf Brian Tabaruka says the tournament is aimed at uplifting the level of rugby in the region ahead of the first leg.

“We aim at uplifting the level of rugby in the region. This project will gradually extend to other neighboring rugby communities of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Congo, Rwanda and Central Africa.

We have played the sport and we are the role models. There is need for us to inspire the current and future generations”. Brian Tabaruka

Kenya won last year’s edition and Uganda will look to capitalize on home advantage in the first leg this weekend.

Ibrahim Nyago anticipates a hard game but hopeful the Ugandan side will win this time.

“This time we are going to win. We have prepared well.

We have had good numbers coming in and preparations have been so unique and everyone member on the team is very ready .

In rugby, you can’t take any game between Uganda and Kenya lightly.

Since it’s a cross boarder culture, we expect numbers and it will be a fun filled event”. Nyago.

Both teams have held training sessions over the last couple of months in the build up the tournament.

The retired legends held the inaugural marathon last month that saw over 300 runners take part as part of the event.

Kenya legends won last year’s meetings. In the first leg, the Oscar Osir coached Kenya Nondies ran out 38-6 winners at Kyadondo before they went on to seal the aggregate win in Nairobi.

Uganda fielded a squad of renown veterans for the inaugural fixtures that was captained by veteran Platinum Credit Heathens hooker Alex Mubiru and included Michael Wokorach, Asuman Mugerwa, Timothy Mudoola, Brian Tabaruka among others.
