UPL: KCCA FC eyes top spot as they host Maroons

KCCA FC host seventh placed Maroons FC on match day 20 of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League as they target victory to move atop.

The Lugogo-based side lie second on the table and a win against the prison side will take the 13 times Uganda Premier League Champions back to the top.

Maroons FC has played two games more than KCCA FC and have 25 points so far.

The last time both sides met in the league, Maroons were 1-0 winners over KCCA FC.

KCCA FC has not played league football in a month’s time. The kasasiro boys last played a league game against Arua Hill SC in February 2023.

“We face a side that beat us in the first leg and have not lost in their last four league games, winning four and drawing one,” KCCA FC head coach Morley Byekwaso said.

“We are ready for them even after going one month without playing a league game for us. There are a number of things we have worked on during this period and I am hoping the players can put them into practice.”

“We welcome Waiswa, Wasswa, Atube and Poloto back in the team after missing the previous game against Mbarara City. We will miss our captain Ochan and Shaban but the club has able replacements to fill the void,” he added.

Rogers Mato and Allan Okello are back in the squad. The pair had been away on National duty with the Uganda Cranes.

Julius Poloto has recovered from illness and is part of the available squad to face Maroons FC. Muhammad Shaban is out due to suspension.

Rogers Atube and Moses Waiswa are back in the squad. The pair had been granted compassionate leave for the previous game against Mbarara City FC.

Geofrey Wasswa is available. The Center back missed the previous cup game against Mbarara City due to suspension.

Club Captain Benjamin Ochan has been handed a compassionate leave after he lost his biological mother earlier this week. The skipper will miss the game against Maroons FC.

Musatafa Kizza is ruled out due to injury. Hassan Mubiru is away due to school football. John Revita is ruled out for a long term due to knee injury.
