UPDF FC has put an end to their three-game winless run with a comfortable 2-0 win against Mbarara City at Bombo Military Barracks Grounds.

Brian Kalumba and Brian Kayanja’s second half strikes were enough for the Kefa Kisala’s coached side to grab maximum points on Wednesday evening.

Both teams kicked off the game tight defensively that made it difficult for the attacks to make any difference.

Mbarara City started to get a bit of possession after 25 minutes but the Ankole Lions were not really going anywhere with the ball as the game lacked quality from both sides.

In the 26th minute, Mbarara City custodian Muhammad Ssekeba was forced into a save to keep out a curling effort from Kalumba.

Mbarara City deliver a cross into the UPDF box through Jasper Aheebwa in the 31st minute but there were no players to make good use of it.

Five minutes to half time, UPDF got a penalty but Ssekeba made a double save to keep the Ankole Lions into the game.

UPDF made the breakthrough early in the second period as Kalumba found space inside the Mbarara City box before finding the back of the net to put the hosts in the driving seat in the 46th minute.

Mbarara City had a chance to put the game on level terms but custodian Yusuf Wasswa made a save from a dangerous cross from Jasper Aheebwa.

In the 71st minute, Brian Kayanja doubled UPDF’s advantage by scoring Mbarara City’s second goal to make life difficult for the Ankole Lions.

A win has lifted UPDF FC up to the fifth position with 15 points while Mbarara City remain 12th with just seven points from nine games played so far.
