Uganda’s Athletics Team flies out to Poland for World Half Marathon Championship
Seven Ugandan athletes have in the previous night departed to Poland for yet another international engagements at the World marathon championship.
On Wednesday, the 14th October 2020 National Council of Sport (NCS) Chairman Dr. Donald Rukare flagged off Team Uganda-Athletics to the World Half Marathon scheduled for 17th October 2020 in Poland.
Jacob Kiplimo, Moses Kibet and Abel Chebet will be joined by Joshua Cheptegei and Stephen Kissa who already left the land to make the Men’s team.
While the women’s team comprises of Juliet Chekwel, Doreen Chemutai, Doreen Chesang, and Rachael Zena Chebet.
In the recent past, the Uganda flag has flown so high as teenager Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei sparked to win Gold medal and setting up new records on numerous occasions.
Government through National Council of Sports provided full travel facilitation for Team Uganda to Gdynia Poland.
Dr. Donald Rukare congratulated Uganda Athletics Federation for being one of the most productive Sports Federation with a sports development program.
“I congratulate you for being one of the most productive sports federation with a sports development program. Your contribution to Uganda’s is visible”. Rukare.
While Dr. Patrick Ogwel, the NCS General Secretary remarked that Uganda Athletics Federation is giving value for money for the Government funding to sports and as such appealed to all the 51 Sports Federations to replicate the achievements.
“Thank you for giving value for money for the government funding to sports. You have always made us proud globally. I appeal to all the 51 federations to replicate your achievements”. Dr. Ogwel.
NCS later hosted the team to a luncheon at the Copper Chimney Restaurant ahead of its departure at 11:30pm aboard KLM Airlines.
