Running as an independent candidate, Muhangi seeks to replace outgoing Member of Parliament Muhammad Nsereko.

During a press briefing immediately after his nomination at the Electoral Commission offices in Ntinda on Wednesday, Muhangi said his decision to run as an independent stems from a desire to unite the people of Kampala Central beyond political divides.
“My decision to stand as an independent stem from the matters that affect us all that do not segregate across political affiliations, religions, or tribes,” Muhangi said.
From Ntinda, Muhangi staged a hugely attended powerful rally in Kamwokya, where he introduced his manifesto and vision to the electorate.

“I’m humble that today has come and an important step of nomination has been taken. Now is the time for us to be united, to put all our efforts together, and not be divided. Let’s all win together.”

Uganda Boxing Federation Presidency
In January 2018, Muhangi was elected as the new president of the Uganda Boxing Federation.

Under his leadership, the federation has seen significant growth, with the number of registered boxers increasing from 110 to thousands and schools participating in boxing championships rising from zero to 47.
Advocacy and Community Work
Muhangi has been an advocate for fair distribution of sports budget funds.
He petitioned the Minister of Education and Sports to address the imbalance in funding, where the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) received Shs10bn then, out of the Shs17.4bn sports budget, leaving other federations with limited resources.

His achievement in boxing
Since assuming office as UBF president in 2018, Muhangi has been widely credited for revitalizing Ugandan boxing, attracting corporate partnerships, expanding grassroots programs, and increasing the sport’s visibility nationwide.
Noticeably, Muhangi has changed the corporate image of boxing, a sport that had lost fame in the masses before his rise to power.
His leadership has earned him strong backing from the boxing fraternity, which believes he will bring the same energy and accountability to Parliament.
This was visible with hundreds of boxers who escorted him to Ntinda and control the masses peacefully at Kamwokya
His deep connections among Kampala’s youth, boxers, and entertainers have made him one of the most recognizable figures in the city’s sports and entertainment scene.
