Uganda’s Victoria Pearls triumph in thrilling encounter against Canada

The Victoria Pearls started their 2025 Victoria Series campaign with a dominant 7-wicket win over Canada at the Lugogo Cricket Oval.

Kevin Amuge starred with the ball, taking 4 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs, as Canada were bowled out for 67 in 19 overs.

Amuge’s impressive spell, supported by Consylate Aweko, Immaculate Nakisuuyi, and Naome Jane Amongin, restricted Canada to just 67 runs.

The visitors’ batting lineup struggled, with only Amarpal Kaur (18) and Achini Perera (13) reaching double figures.

In response, Uganda’s chase was steady, with Captain Janet Mbabazi anchoring the innings with a composed, unbeaten 37. Mbabazi’s leadership and batting prowess sealed the win in 11.5 overs, as Uganda reached 68/3.

Mbabazi praised her team’s performance but emphasized the need to improve with the bat: “We’re happy with the win, but we need to keep working on our batting.”

Meanwhile, Canada’s captain Amarpal Kaur remained positive despite the loss, saying, “It wasn’t about the pitch. We just didn’t bat well. Conditions are good here, and we’re looking forward to bouncing back.”

Kevin Amuge, the Player of the Match, praised her teammates for their support in helping her win the accolade.

She expressed her hope to win more awards in the future and is looking forward to a successful series.

The next match between Uganda and Canada is scheduled for October 21, 2:00 PM, at the Lugogo Oval.
