UBF president Moses Muhangi to be nominated tomorrow for Kampala Central parliamentary seat

Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) president Moses Muhangi will be nominated on Wednesday, 22nd October 2025 for Kampala Central parliamentary seat

With no any party affiliations, Muhangi will run for the Kampala seat as an independent candidate in the 2026 general elections.

Ushered into boxing leadership on 20th January 2018, Muhangi has greatly changed the face of boxing in just a few years despite internal fights and COVID -19 and its post effects.

The Uganda’s boxing fraternity have already endorsed Muhangi for the battle for Kampala to send their echoes in Uganda’s August House.

Boxing coaches along with boxers have applauded Muhangi for his tremendous role towards the sport of boxing since he took over office and are hopeful he will deliver similar progress in case is elected as Kampala Central Member of Parliament.

After his nomination Muhangi will hold his maiden campaign rally in Kamwokya on Wednesday as he bids to replace Muhammad Nsereko for the Kampala Central Incumbent Nsereko already confirmed that he will not run for the position in the 2026 elections.

Muhangi if elected is expected to boldly carry the sporting message in the national parliament just like FUFA boss Moses Magogo, Kayemba Solo, minister Peter Ogwang, Allan Ssewanyana and Asuman Basalirwa who have been vocal on sporting issues during the 11th parliament.

Boxing is one of Uganda’s traditional and dominant sports disciplines, despite it’s noticeable decline from the early 2000s.

Since Muhangi’s administration gained power, there has been improved corporate image, corporate sponsorships, participation by both boxers and fans, competition and visibility in Boxing.

However, the sport’s major problems are currently poor infrastructure and inadequate government funding.
