Twelve (12) cheese players have today been flagged off to Eindhoven in the Netherlands for the FIDE World Youth U16 Olympiad championship.

The flagged off team left the country on Thursday 10th and will touch down in Eindhoven on the morning of Friday.

Organized by the International Chess Federation with the Royal Dutch Chess Federation, the championship will run from 12th to 19th August 2023.

Speaking to the media, the team Coach who also doubles as the captain Walter Okas said, “This a project we have prepared for over three years. We have intensively trained for three months and we feel the readiness in us as a team.

They are young but talented. This is a big stage for them and it will give a great experience and exposure”. Walter Okas.

The twelve (12) players are divided into three teams of four. Team A includes Mark Arthur Mwase, Pido Edwin, Joseph Nygaard Ajiri and Caroline Nabirye.

Team is composed of Shiloh Tandeka, Ethan Tyaba Kigundu, Mathew Prince Mwase and Tatina Zuri.

Daniel Dokoria, Hailey Mitchell Nio, Ssuubi Kiwanuka and Kiwanuka Nakasi are members of team C.

The team was flagged off at National Council of Sports (NCS).
