Soltilo Bright Stars secured a place in the round of 32 of the Stanbic Uganda Cup after edging Free Stars 7-6 on penalties on Monday.

The 2019 finalists needed a penalty shootout after a one-all stalemate against spirited Free Stars.

Free Stars captain Alex Kitonsa fired them into the lead in the first period of the contest to send the home fans into a bouncing frenzy.

His goal was however cancelled out by a Joseph Janjali’s late equaliser in the final 10 minutes of the game.

The winner of the tie however, had to be determined via a spot kicks and the 2019 prevailed to the next round.

Issa Bugembe, Odong Jonathan, Omony Kaka Denis, Joseph Janjali, Nvule Jamir, Ssenkatuka Nelson, Jungu Methodius all converted for the visitors.

Meanwhile in Soroti, Ateker FC cruised to the round of 32 after a 4-2 penalty shootout win over Lugazi Municipal FC.

The two sides had played out to a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Maroons also advanced 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 stalemate against North FC in normal time in Jinja.

Meanwhile, in Soroti UPDF FC sailed through to the round of 32 after a 3-0 win over Soroti FC.

Action in the round of 64 will resume on Tuesday January 25th with two games.

Bujumbura United FC willl host Paidha Black Angels FC at Kibanjwa Grounds in Hoima while Iganga Young FC will entertain Calvary FC at Ssaza grounds in Iganga.
