The Uganda national basketball team, the Silverbacks, commence their final qualification window for the 2025 Afrobasket today against group leaders Cape Verde in Tripoli, Libya.

The team is seeking to avenge their 78-73 loss in the reverse fixture played in February.

Uganda currently sits third in Group B, having secured a win against Nigeria and suffered a loss against Libya, whom they will face on Saturday and Sunday consecutively.

Head coach Mandy Juruni will rely on the return of Ishmael Wainright and the impressive form of Robinson Opongo, one of the standout players from the February window.

With 15 out of the 20 teams from the group stage set to qualify for the finals in Angola this August, the Silverbacks must maintain their current third-place position to secure their spot.

The team’s performance in this final qualification window will be crucial in determining their fate, making every game a must-win.
