As the Crested Cranes prepare to face Ethiopia in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2026 Qualifiers, head coach Sheryl Botes has confirmed her leadership team.

Forward Viola Nambi, who plays for Finnish side Aland United Women FC, has been appointed team captain, bringing her experience and leadership skills to the forefront.

Nambi will be assisted by two deputy captains: experienced forward Fazila Ikwaput, who plays for Gokulam Kerala WFC in India, and goalkeeper Ruth Aturo, currently with Tanzanian outfit Tausi WFC.

This leadership trio is expected to play a crucial role in guiding the team through the qualification campaign.

Uganda’s WAFCON 2026 qualification journey begins with a home fixture against Ethiopia’s Lucy on Friday, February 21st, 2025, at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo.

The return leg is scheduled to take place in Addis Ababa on February 26th, with the aggregate winner advancing to the next qualification round.

With their leadership team in place, the Crested Cranes are poised to make a strong start to their WAFCON qualification campaign.
