Defending champions Kitara FC secured a spot in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 16 after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Kampala Regional League side CATDA FC at Bugolobi Coffee Ground.

Patrick Kaddu’s 71st-minute header gave Kitara the lead, but CATDA briefly revived their hopes with an 84th-minute equalizer.

However, Kitara’s resilience paid off when Kikambwe Martin scored an own goal in the 89th minute, sealing the win for the defending champions.

Despite facing lower-tier opposition in both rounds, Wasswa Bbosa’s side remains on course to defend their title and secure a CAF Confederation Cup slot.

Kitara now joins SC Villa, Total FC, and Rwenzori Lions in the Round of 16.

Their focus shifts to the Uganda Premier League, where they host URA FC on March 1 at Royal Park Butema.

With their title defense still on track, Kitara FC will look to maintain their momentum in the competition.
