AFCON U20: Uganda held by ten men Congo in a four goal thriller
Uganda Hippos and Congo share spoils in a four goal thriller entertainment as each side continue to seal a knockout slot.
The Group B top-of-the-table clash at the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations was held on Thursday evening at Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
Josna Loulendo and Prince Mombouli whilst Titus Ssematimba and Saidi Mayanja scored Uganda Hippos’ goals.
Josna Loulendo sent Congo into a 1-0 lead just six minutes from kick off connecting onto Prince Aldy Soussou Ilendo’s corner at the near post.
The Hippos through Titus Ssematimba close range finish leveled matters, 11 minutes into the game.
Congolese goalie Christopher Wamba made a howler when he failed to deal with Rogers Mugisha’s freekick to allow Ssematimba slot home for Uganda’s equalizer.
Shortly, Saidi Mayanja’s close range tap in finish from captain Isma Mugulusi’s perfectly timed layoff gave Uganda a 2-1 lead advantage.
Through another set piece, Uganda was punished as Prince Mombouli headed past goalie Magada to secured a crucial point for Congo.
Despite a spirited fight, Congo were reduced to ten men following the second booking of captain Claude Ngongara on first half stoppage time.
Uganda and Congo are now joint table leaders, both tied on four (4) points in two games.
Uganda won their first game 2-1 against the Central African Republic whilst Congo overcame South Sudan with the same scoreline at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
