The 22nd edition of the Federation of East Africa Secondary School Sports Association (FEASSA) Girls’ Basketball Championship kicked off today, August 14, in Kakamega, Kenya.
In a thrilling match, defending champions St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Kayatiwi of Kenya 68-55.
St. Noa trailed 3-15 but drew level at 18-18 after the first quarter.
Kayatiwi gained momentum in the second quarter, winning 18-10 to seal a 36-28 halftime lead.
St. Noa fought back, narrowly winning the third quarter 11-10, with the score tied at 46-39 heading into the final quarter.
The defending champions took charge in the fourth quarter, outscoring Kayatiwi to secure a 68-55 victory.
Meanwhile, St. Mary’s Kitende dominated the all-Ugandan matchup, beating Nabisunsa 66-42.
In the other game, Kibuli SS secured their first win on return to FEASSA basketball, defeating Tanzanian champions Juhudi 37-31.
The tournament will resume on Saturday, following the official opening ceremony at Bukhungu Stadium on Friday.
St. Noa Girls Secondary School-Zana is grouped in Group A alongside Kibuli SS, St. Joseph Girls Kitale (Kenya), E.S.B Kamonyi (Rwanda), Juhudi (Tanzania), and Kayatiwi (Kenya).
