U20 WCQ: Khalifa happy with Uganda’s progress

Uganda U20 Women’s National Team head coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi claims that he is happy that his side managed to eliminate South Africa.

Uganda progressed to the fourth round of the 2022 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers after eliminating South Africa on Friday.

The team under the stewardship of coach Ayub Khalifa Kiyingi put up a spirited performance to earn a good result and thus advance to the next round.

The game played at Dobsonsville Stadium in Johannesburg ended in a goalless draw, a result that helped Uganda to sail through.

“I’m so happy that we have managed to eliminate South Africa. I thank my players for the commitment showed today and making sure we pick a good result,” Khalifa said.

“We only hope to keep the same attitude at the next round and achieve our ultimate target of qualifying to the World Cup,” he added.

The first leg played two weeks ago at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende had ended 1-0 in favour of Uganda courtesy of Hadijah Nandago’s goal.

Uganda will meet either Ghana or Zambia at the next stage which is the second last qualifying phase.
