Masaza Cup 2020: Date, Venue for Final Between Gomba and Buddu Confirmed
The 2020 Buganda Masaza Cup tournament final between all time champions Gomba and the 2016 champions Buddu is to be played on 6th March 2021 at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende.
This development was revealed by Henry Moses Ssekabembe Kiberu during a press brief on Tuesday 9th February 2021 at Bulange.
“It takes a lot of commitment, devotion and determination to organize such a tournament during this COVID-19 period. It couldn’t be possible if we had no strong partnership in the sponsorships and media.
We pushed this tournament final ahead because of the many injuries picked up by the teams in finals”. Ssekabembe.
On the same day, the classification match between semi final losers Busiro and Bulemezi who were both in the 2019 final will be played before the final.
The classification game between Busiro and Bulemezi will kick off at 12pm before the final of Gomba and Buddu at 3pm. His Majesty the Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi Kimera II will grace the final.
A total of 38 games have been played so far with different statistics set up.
All the 18 Buganda counties took part in this edition. All teams have posted 93 goals as Charles Baale of Gomba lead the top scorers’ log with 7, compared to Gerald Ogweti and Usama Arafat both of Busiro tied at four goals.
Only four (4) red cards have been registered in this edition.
Buganda took up of all testing, feeding, transportation of all officials and players to ensure a smooth run through the tourney.
540 participants including teams, organizing committee officials, referees, media were tested during the cause.
This year’s winner will take home SH.12M, runners up 8M, 3rd 7M and the 4th will get 5M.
