President Museveni to host UPL clubs, CHAN team

FUFA President Moses Magogo, has revealed that FUFA is seeking financial assistance from the government to support struggling premier league clubs.

Magogo made this disclosure ahead of a dinner hosted by President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni at State House, where the Uganda Cranes CHAN team will be honored.

Magogo explained that while FUFA is to invest Shs3.4 billion in the new premier league format using its own resources, the organization believes that government support could provide a significant boost to the clubs.

“The Shs3.4bn we are investing in the premier league is not from the government but from FUFA’s own resources put together over time. But these clubs can get some substantial help from the government just as we have seen in other countries,” Magogo stated.

President Museveni’s Support
The FUFA President expressed optimism that President Museveni would consider their request, saying, “We shall use every opportunity to lobby for the clubs and if given opportunity, I will present this to the president.”

This development comes on the back of President Museveni’s pledge to reward the Uganda Cranes with Shs1.2 billion for every win in the CHAN 2024 tournament.

The Uganda Cranes have already earned Shs2.4 billion from the president after winning two matches at the group stage, and their earnings could increase further depending on their performance.

The team’s success has brought pride to the nation, and the government’s support for the premier league clubs could be a significant step in promoting football development in Uganda.
