The Uganda Cricket Association’s week-long youth tournament ended in a thrilling finale at Lugogo, where the underdog Sippi Trekkers stunned the unbeaten Bujjagali Rafters to claim the championship.

The Trekkers’ victory was a testament to their determination and skill, as they overcame a precarious position to edge out the Rafters by four wickets.

The Rafters’ captain, Judith Nakasaga, won the toss and chose to bat, but the team collapsed to 66 for 8 in 20 overs, with Immaculate Nakisuyi being the only notable resistance with 12 runs.

The Trekkers’ bowlers, particularly Malisa Ariokot, played a crucial role in restricting the Rafters’ score.

The Trekkers got off to a strong start, but Malisa Ariokot’s devastating burst of five wickets in six balls, including a hat-trick, left Sippi reeling at 66 for 6.

However, the Trekkers showed remarkable composure and resilience to edge out the winning runs and secure the championship.

“The tournament has been a fantastic week of cricket and a milestone for our High Performance program,” said Richard Okia, Uganda Cricket’s head of high performance.

“Senior Victoria Pearls players guided the younger ones, and we’ve seen real growth among emerging talent.”

Standout Performers

The tournament recognized several standout performers, including:

Best Bowler: Malisa Ariokot (14 wickets, best figures 5/12)

Best Batter: Rita Musamali (237 runs, top score 64)

Most Valuable Player: Immaculate Nakisuyi (272 points)
