FUBA Coaching Course concludes with resounding success, eight enrolled

The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has successfully wrapped up its 3rd Coaching Beginners Course at the YMCA, sparking vital discussions about basketball development across the country.

According to Mr. Albert W. Aciko, FUBA’s Head of Coaching Education, the program has been instrumental in igniting a hunger for knowledge among participants.

“These have opened up different discussions in the three regions I’ve been to so far. People are hungry for the knowledge,” Mr. Aciko noted, while also acknowledging the challenge of getting people to appreciate the importance of the course.

However, he expressed personal satisfaction with the growth has experienced as an instructor, stating, “The more I teach, the more I get better and know how to deliver the course to the different places and people.”

The Commissioner for Youth and Mini Basketball in Uganda Patricia Ayebare commended the regions that have embraced the initiative, reaffirming FUBA’s commitment to grassroots development.

Brian Sentuya, a participant in the course echoed the sentiment, highlighting the program’s value and wishing more high school and academy coaches had attended.

The Sentuya emphasized the practical insights gained, particularly regarding age-appropriate training methods.

“How you train a 16-year-old is not the same for a 12 or 10-year-old. This course has exposed me, but above all, the details in everything.”

They also stressed the importance of continuous learning, advising fellow players and coaches to “invest in yourselves. Knowledge doesn’t come easy.”

Eight participants took part in this Kampala region workshop. It is the third regional workshop having successfully held two in Western and Kitara which attracted 10 and 12 respectively.

The successful completion of the FUBA Beginners Coaching Course marks another milestone in FUBA’s efforts to enhance coaching standards and foster basketball growth across Uganda.
