AFCON U20: South Sudan were difficult to beat – Mutyaba
Uganda star Travis Mutyaba says they found South Sudan a hard side to beat despite dominating their TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations clash final group on Sunday.
The talented player Mutyaba was named the TotalEnergies Man of the Match as the Hippos booked their place in the quarter-finals following their 0-0 draw against neighbors South Sudan.
The East African derby was the last match of Group B played at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia.
Uganda went into Sunday’s match with four points in the bag and needed to avoid defeat to secure a place in the top two to advance.
South Sudan made it difficult for their neighbours and they had best chances of the match through Paul Mara and second substitute Peter Aparer in the second half.
“We wanted a win though but unfortunately we found it very difficult to get a win but we managed to get a point,” said Mutyaba.
The youngster came close for the Hippos late in the second half but his low effort was pushed away by the impressive South Sudanese keeper Godwill Yogusuk.
“We want our fans to keep praying and supporting us to make it to the finals,” Mutyaba added.
