Africa Club Volleyball Championship: Nemostars pitted in group C ahead of action commencement this morning

Uganda’s representatives at the Africa club men’s volleyball championship Nemostars are drawn in pool B alongside NTC (Tanzania), Woilta Dicha (Ethiopia), Olympiq Kelibia (Tunisia) ahead of the championship’s start today.

Nemostars will face MTC in the opener at 10:00am and Kelibia in the second group game later this evening, both games to be held at Saidi Bousaid hall before they play Waloita in the final game on Monday 20th at Zouaoui.

The championship quarter-finals will be on 22nd and 23rd , semi-finals on 26th whilst the final and closing ceremony will be on 27th.

Uganda six time national league champions Nemostars flown to Sousse Tunisia for the Africa club men’s volleyball Championship on the morning Friday 16th April 2021 aboard Egypt Air and arrived in Tunis on Saturday 17th, just in time for the technical meeting.

The 2019 African Club Champions quarter finalists Nemostars contingent travelled to Tunis with only 10 players without officials due to financial constraints the club is currently facing.
Nemostars are returning to the continent to represent Uganda having won the National Volleyball league in 2019.

The club has been the most consistent side in Uganda and East African region at this stage having participated in all the last 5 Editions of the continental showpiece. Their best finish being 6th in the 2019 edition in Cairo.

The team however travelled without Head Coach Andrew Okapis due to financial constraints despite international referee Innocent Komakech making the trip.

However, they travelled with a boosted squad following a temporary acquisition of Ugandan International Savior Atama who joined George Aporu and Smith Okumu the most consistent players in the squad featuring in all the last 5-editions with Nemostars.

This year’s Africa club volleyball championship attracted 16 clubs from the initially expected 26 from 13 Confederation of Africa Volleyball (CAVB) member countries.
