Pool: Justine Nampeebwa Shock Ritah Ninsiima, as seed three Zaimait Nabafu fall to Ankah Sheillah in day one of Grand Open

Justine Nampeebwa’s 5-2 win against former seed one and currently the reigning National champion Ritah Ninsiima was one of the shock results of day one in the ongoing first edition of the Grand Open championship.

In the other day’s shock, seed Zaimait Nabafu lost to tournament’s surprise package Ankah Sheillah in a 5-2 thriller to storm quarter-final stage

The win pushed Nampeebwa to become the first female to storm quarter-final stage of the tournament.
Prossy Namuli and Michelle Nandawula who beat veteran shooter Jacintah Kajjubi 5-3 are the other two females who reached quarter-finals.

In the day’s other ties, 2015 national champion Amos Byagumanawe was outclassed in a 5-1 loss to Abex Ssemuzibu , while Uganda’s seed three Joseph Kasozi lost 5-3 to under-dog Vincent Ssekibuule.

The 2014 and 2017 national champion Fahad Ssewankambo was eliminated from the round of 32 by Steven Kiyemba after a rematch following a draw game in the decider.

Uganda’s top seed Ibra Ssejjemba showcased class to beat Dan Mubiru by 5-1 as former PAU president Adam Ssebi saw exit following a 5-0 loss to Ronald Akampulira.

The Grand Open championship started on 19th March 2021 at Pot It Bar in Najjanankumbi and it will run till Sunday 21st .

This is the first edition of the Grand Open championship. It’s aim is to give a new breath of air to the players, officials and the sport at large with a return from a long period of break since the COVID-19 lockdown in March 2020.
