Uganda Boxing Federation sets stage for new era in Boxing after stakeholders meeting
A new chapter in Ugandan boxing unfolded as the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) convened its first stakeholders meeting, to discuss the alignment of the provisions of the new Sports Act 2023 marking a pivotal moment for the sport.
The stakeholders’ meeting was held on Thursday afternoon, the 9th January 2025 at Copper Chimney Restaurant in Lugogo, Kampala.
The gathering brought together key partners previously involved in managing professional boxing under the repealed sports act, with UBF President Moses Muhangi hailing it as a crucial step towards shaping the future of boxing in Uganda.
At the heart of the discussions was the alignment with the provisions of the New Sports Act 2023, which designates UBF as the governing body for both amateur and professional boxing in the country.
As UBF prepares for this transition, it is implementing internal reforms and ensuring compliance with the new regulations.
This process, dubbed “cleaning our house” by Muhangi, aims to facilitate a smooth re-registration process and lay a strong foundation for the future of boxing in Uganda.
The meeting yielded key resolutions, including collaboration with stakeholders to forge a unified vision for boxing, strategic steps to align with the New Sports Act 2023, and a commitment to managing both amateur and professional boxing under one governing body.
According to Muhangi, “This meeting is a critical milestone as we prepare for a new era in Ugandan boxing.
Together with our stakeholders, we are setting a foundation for professionalism, growth, and success.”
