With two new categories introduced, the 26th edition of KAVC International tournament launched

With two new categories  namely, Corporate and secondary schools introduced, the 26th edition of the famous Kampala Amateur Volleyball Club (KAVC) International tournament has been launched.

Under the theme “Championing better community health and behavior through Sports”, the tournament was launched today Thursday, the 1st August 2024 at Uganda Olympic Committee (UOC) headquarters in Lugogo, Kampala.

This will be the cardinal message to everyone that, a better future can be achieved by taking care of vital aspects of life such as our health and behavior, and that these can be readily drawn from participation in sporting activities.

The tournament that will run from 2nd to 4th August 2024 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Hockey National Grounds attracted 18 men and 11 women’s teams from seven (7) nations.

South Sudan, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania, Holland and Uganda will all have clubs featuring at the tournament.

In the men category , Uganda will present KAVC-A, KAVC-B, KCCA, Police VC, Prisons, Elyon, Bukedea, Ndejje University, Sky.

The foreign sides in this category include Bujumbura Uwezo, Rukinzo, Muzinga and Moso Sugar all from Burundi.

APR, REG, Police and Kepler are from Rwanda while Juba VC and Lions SC are from South Sudan.

Kenya will be represented by Desert Warriors and Equity Bank while Kagera VC and Bukoba VC are from Tanzania.

In the women, KAVC-A, KCCA, COBAP, Ndejje University, KAVC-B, VVC, Espoir, Seroma, Elyon, UPDF, Kampala, University and Bukedea will feature.

In the women category, there will be only seven foreign teams. They include Bujumbura Uwezo, Muzinga and Gender Light Club from Burundi.

APR, Police (Rwanda), COBRA (South Sudan) and Dessert Queens of Kenya are the others.

The Corporate category will have DTBank, Centenary Bank, URA, NBS, TotalEnergies, ABSA Bank, NWSC, Parliament of Uganda, 9Uganda, Cancer Institute, Housing Finance Bank two foreign teams NSSF-TZ (TZ), and ASEVIF (RWA)

The Secondary schools category has attracted Nabinsunsa Girls’ Secondary School, and Mariam High School.

For over 25 years, the tournament has provided affordable high-level international volleyball competitive environment to different teams and players.

National Social Security Fund (NSSF) is the lead sponsor for the 26th edition. NSSF has supported the annual event for the past 15 years.

Other partners include, Pallisa Agro-Processors, Pepsi, NBS Sport, Goodlife Pharmacy, UOC (Uganda Olympic Committee), Ministry of Health, UVF (Uganda Volleyball Federation) and others will join us along for a successful event.
