UMU secures quarterfinal berth in Pepsi University Football League

Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) has become the first varsity to reach the knockout stage of the Pepsi University Football League, following a hard-fought 1-0 away victory over International University in East Africa (IUEA) on Monday.
The winning goal was scored by Aguma Wesley in the 5th minute, courtesy of a well-executed corner kick by Calvin Peter Emayu.
UMU’s defense proved impenetrable, thwarting IUEA’s attempts to equalize.
Despite creating numerous chances, IUEA was unable to capitalize on them.
However, their improved performance suggests that they may become a formidable competitor in future seasons.
With this win, UMU has secured maximum points in four matches, qualifying for the quarterfinal stage with two games to spare.
IUEA, on the other hand, has suffered its second consecutive loss, both at the hands of UMU, and currently sits third with four points.
The league continues tomorrow with a fixture between defending champions Nkumba University and Busitema University.
