In a thrilling encounter, Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) edged past Busitema University 1-0 in the University Football League at Mbale Campus.

This hard-fought victory propelled IUIU to the top of Group A, leapfrogging Nkumba University.

The decisive moment came in the 11th minute when Mugambe Faraji capitalized on a rebound off goalkeeper Ongu Emmanuel, securing the only goal of the match.

Prior to this, Busitema had squandered early chances, with Okite Christopher firing wide, while IUIU’s Shafiki Kawooya also missed an opportunity.

Both teams created scoring openings throughout the match, but the goalkeepers, Ongu and Musasizi Sadat, made crucial saves to deny their opponents.

The outcome of this match has significant implications for the standings in Group A.

IUIU now leads the group with 11 points, while Nkumba University trails behind with 10 points.

Meanwhile, the University Football League will continue on Friday, March 7, with a Group B clash between Kumi University and Makerere University, set to take place in Kumi.
