Vipers SC solidified their position at the top of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Police FC at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Thursday.

The win, courtesy of Yunus Sentamu’s second-half strike, propelled Vipers to 46 points, six clear of second-placed NEC FC.

The decisive moment arrived just three minutes after the restart, when Sentamu slotted home from a well-placed cutback by stand-in skipper Allan Okello.

Okello’s clever run down the left flank created the opportunity, and Sentamu finished clinically at the far post.

The match had begun on an evenly contested note, with both sides struggling to break the deadlock.

Sentamu thought he had given Vipers the lead in the 27th minute, but his effort was ruled out for offside.

The first half ended goalless, but Vipers’ persistence paid off after the break.

The win has significant implications for the league standings.

Vipers SC now enjoy a six-point cushion over NEC FC, who have a game in hand against Wakiso Giants on Friday.

Meanwhile, Police FC remain in 13th place with 20 points, hovering just above the relegation zone.

In another league match, Lugazi completed a double over Express in Najjembe, thanks to Sharif Saaka’s decisive strike in the 43rd minute.

Saaka’s heroics sealed the win for Lugazi, adding to the excitement of the ongoing StarTimes Uganda Premier League.
