Nkumba University edges Busitema in thrilling UFL clash

In a captivating University Football League encounter, Nkumba University, also known as the Beach Boys, came from behind to defeat Busitema University, nicknamed the Baboons, 2-1.
The match, played at Nkumba’s home ground, saw Busitema take an early lead, only to be overtaken by the hosts’ relentless pressure.
Busitema’s Joseph Dinya capitalized on Gabriel Opio’s cross, scoring in just the 2nd minute to put his team ahead.
However, Nkumba’s history of bouncing back from early setbacks proved to be a decisive factor.
In their previous encounter against St. Lawrence University, they had overcome a similar deficit to win 3-1.
Nkumba’s equalizer came in the 14th minute when Kennedy Ssewakambo was brought down in the box, and he subsequently converted the penalty to level the score at 1-1.
The Beach Boys continued to pile on the pressure, with Ssewakambo delivering a series of dangerous crosses that tested Busitema’s defense.
Despite Busitema’s goalkeeper, Ongu Emmanuel, making several crucial saves, Nkumba’s persistence eventually paid off in the 78th minute.
Joshua Komori latched onto Buruhani Tasumba’s free-kick to score the winning goal, securing a 2-1 victory for the Beach Boys.
The result sees Busitema remain in third place, while Nkumba moves up to second place in Group A with seven points, just one point behind leaders IUIU.
The University Football League action continues on Wednesday, February 19, with Bugema hosting KIU in a Group D encounter.
