NIC, UPDF shine on day one of 2025 National Rally Championship

Ugandan netball giants National Insurance Company (NIC) and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) Netball Club made a resounding statement on day one of the Netball Uganda 2025 National Rally Championship, securing two victories each.
NIC, the reigning champions, began their title defence with a landslide 31-09 victory over hosts Busia Greater Lions Netball Club.
They followed up this impressive win with a 21-15 triumph over counterparts KCCA in their second match.
UPDF Netball Club, meanwhile, emerged as the other standout team, registering two hard-fought wins.
The Soldier girls secured a nail-biting 27-26 victory over Police in their opener, which proved to be the most thrilling encounter of the day.
This closely contested match, played in front of a packed crowd, underscored the enduring popularity of netball and hinted at the excitement that awaits in the upcoming league, scheduled to commence on May 5th.
UPDF continued their winning streak, defeating Busia Greater Lions 24-13 in their second match.
In other games, Police rebounded from their narrow loss to UPDF, drawing 22-22 against Weyonje.
Weyonje had earlier secured a 25-19 win over Alisha Netball Club in their opening match.
The competition resumes this morning, with the winner set to be announced this evening following a round-robin format.
This year’s championship features seven clubs: NIC, UPDF, KCCA, Busia Greater Lions, Police, Weyonje, and Alisha.
