Masaza Cup: Ggomba, Mawogola register victories in group openers

Mawogola 1-0 Kabula – Mawogola Ssaza Ground
Ggomba 1-0 Ssese – Kabulasoke PTC playground
Five time record champions, Ggomba started the 2023 Masaza Cup tournament with a slim 1-0 win over Ssese on Saturday, 1st July.
The Felix Kawooya Ssekabuuza coached side Ggomba were at their fortress home Kabulasoke PTC playground.
Shafik Ssali scored the only goal of the evening to inspire Ggomba to it’s first win of tournament.
In another tie, Allan Kabonge and Phillip Ssozi’s coached Busujju played for a 1-all draw against fishermen Buvuma at the Maanyi Sports Ground.
Robert Nakabale (Busujju) and Pius Kamoga (Buvuma) scored for both sides respectively.
Fred Kasendeke’s Mawogola who played host to Hussein Mbalangu’s Kabula at the Mawogola Ssaza Ground were victors.
They beat Kabula by 1-0 to bag maximum points in their group opener. Benon Niyonzima scored against his last year’s pay masters to give Mawogola a home win.
The three-time champions Mawokota beat defending champions Busiro 3-1 at the Mutesa II Wankulukuku stadium before a huge crowd in the tourney’s opening match.
His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II graced the event on Saturday 24th June.
