Laryea Kingston takes the helm of Uganda’s youth football
The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has appointed Ghanaian tactician Laryea Kingston as the new head coach of Uganda’s youth national football teams.
Kingston, a former Ghana international, will oversee the Boys’ Under-15, Under-17, and Under-20 sides as part of FUFA’s long-term strategy to strengthen youth football structures.
Kingston’s appointment was confirmed by FUFA CEO Edgar Watson, who described the move as a crucial milestone in Uganda’s quest to develop its junior football teams.
With UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses, Kingston brings a wealth of experience to the role, including his previous stint as head coach of Ghana’s Under-17 team.
As a player, Kingston featured for the Black Stars between 2002 and 2010 and was part of the squad that defeated Uganda Cranes in Accra in 2005.
He also played alongside former Cranes winger David Obua at Hearts in Scotland.
Kingston expressed his optimism about the new role, stating, “It’s a great honor to be part of Uganda’s football journey.
Let’s work together to build youth teams that will represent this country with pride on the international stage.”
Brian Ssenyondo will continue to lead the Under-17 team at the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar, marking his final assignment with the side before Kingston assumes full responsibility.
Kingston’s two-year contract will see him work closely with FUFA’s Technical Department to develop a sustainable talent pipeline and implement the Federation’s Technical Master Plan.
