Kampala to Host 2025 CAVB Zone V Volleyball Club Championship
The Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Zone V has announced that Kampala, Uganda, will host the 2025 Zonal Club Championship.
This prestigious event will take place from February 16 to 23, 2025, at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium, in conjunction with the Uganda Volleyball Federation.
This marks a significant milestone for Uganda, as it will be the first regional event hosted under the leadership of Sadik Nasiwu, who took over as CAVB Zone V President from Rwanda’s Fernand Ruterana during the 2024 CAVB Congress in Morocco.
“We received bids from Rwanda and Uganda, and a decision was made to award it to Uganda,” said Sadik Nasiwu, CAVB Zone V President.
The championship will feature top teams from 12 countries, including Burundi, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda.
The defending champions, Rwanda National Police (Men) and Kenya Pipeline Corporation (Women), will be seeking to retain their titles.
Uganda hosted the 2019 All-Africa Games qualifiers for women. Although the 2020 Women’s U-20 African Nations Championship was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the country is now poised to host a successful 2025 CAVB Zone V Club Championship.
The competition schedule is as follows:
– Arrival and Technical Meeting: February 16, 2025
– Competition Days: February 17-22, 2025
– Departure: February 23, 2025
The top three teams from each country, with the exception of the defending champions, who can enter four teams, will compete in the championship.
