Kampala Ghetto Youths League: Ajax, Titans, Yega crowned 1st edition champions
1500 players, 92 teams across three age categories of U-12, U-15 and 17 took part in the first edition of Kampala Ghetto Youths League.
The league organize by the Confederate of Pentecostal and Evangelical (COPE) Education and sports ministry in conjunction with the Mulaga based Sebian Youth Sports ministries climaxed on Thursday evening, the 23rd May 2024 at Yes Center in Nsambya.
Irene Mugerwa scored the only goal of the game as the Katwe based Titans Soccer Academy beat Mugambe Soccer Academy (Mengo) 1-0 in the girls football U-15 category to clinch their maiden trophy at the inaugural edition.
In the boys U-12, Ajax Soccer Academy overcame Dream for Africa, winning 2-1 via spot kicks in the final.
The two sides played for a goalless draw in the normal time.
Meanwhile Kibuli based YEGA Charity Soccer Academy labored past Swag Titans (Kamwokya) in a 12-11 dramatic penalty shoots. Both sides played for a 0-0 draw in the normal time.
Of the 92 teams, 20 were girls (U-15), 42 and 30 were for boys under the age of 12 and 17 respectively.
In the U-17 category, Mustafa Oloyo was the top scorer with eight (8) goals while Joshua Aronda was the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
In the boys U-12, Arnold Mutuhaire emerged the top scorer with 12 goals whilst custodian Benediction Amisi was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Aisha Namukwaya was the top scorer for girls U-15 category on 5 goals. Meanwhile Vivian Watera was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP).
Coach Ian Ssebaka, Esther Namboka and Ivan Nsubuga were the main organizers of the event.
In attendance were miss tourism project administrator Loice Namara Kalamuka and Kabalagala LC. III Makindye Division councilor Hassan Katende.
