State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang has this morning flagged off four (4) secondary school football teams to Dalian city China to represent Uganda at the forthcoming International Schools Sports Federation World Cup championship.
The four teams are composed of one girl and three boys teams who will fly out of the country later this evening.
Boys teams include Amus College, Bukedea Comprehensive and St. Mary’s College Kisubi. Amus College is the only Girls team.
The championship will run from 17th to 27th May 2024.
Bukedea Comprehensive School and St. Mary’s College Kisubi replaced St. Mary’s Boarding Secondary School-Kitende and St. Henry’s College-Kitovu who withdrew from the championship.
“The flag I’m handing over to you is an embodiment of the country. Discipline amongst us should be key to sell a good image of Uganda.
Be adjustable to challenges in all aspects. Diet, weather, languages are some of the challenges you are to face.
As players, this is your optune moment to cease opportunities. This championship brings together many scouts from across the world”. Minister Peter Ogwang.
Amus College School is the only side in team Uganda who have ever been at this championship.
This is to be there second appearance after their very first last year in Rabat, Morocco.
In attendees at the flag off were; Commissioner for Physical Education and sports Duncans Mugumya, USSSA President emeritus Patrick Okanya, National Council of Sports Assistant General Secretary in charge of technical matters David Katende among others.
