Greenlight Islamic Secondary School successfully defends Nansana Zone championship

In a thrilling display of football prowess, Greenlight Islamic Secondary School (GLISS) – Nansana emerged victorious, thumping Alliance High School 4-0 to successfully defend the Nansana zone 2025 Wakiso District Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) boys football qualifiers championship.

The highly anticipated final was held on a wet Friday afternoon, March 28th, at St. Augustine College Grounds in Wakiso.

The match got off to a flying start, with Abdu Razak Iradukunda scoring in the first minute, curling home a well-built move initiated by Simon Peter Okwi’s magic from the left flank.

Just 14 minutes later, Elvis Kimuli doubled the lead, putting the score at 2-0.

Emmanuel Lule extended the lead to 3-0 in the 38th minute, before magical winger Thomas Kawooya sealed the victory with a 4-0 scoreline in the 41st minute.

This victory marked the culmination of an impressive tournament run for Greenlight Islamic, who had demonstrated their form in the semi-finals with a convincing 5-0 win over Rochdale.

Abud Razak Iradukunda and Simon Peter Okwi scored a brace each, while Shafik Ssegirinya added a goal to seal Greenlight’s victory.

In the quarter-finals, Greenlight Islamic had overcome their junior team by a 2-1 margin, with Brian Ssenfuma and Abud Razak Iradukunda scoring for the senior team.

On the other hand, Alliance High School had edged out London College in a 3-2 penalty shootout after a goalless draw in normal time in the semi-finals to reach the finals.

This victory marked a significant upset, as Alliance had previously eliminated St. Augustine College by a 3-1 margin in the quarter-finals.

The top three schools, including champions Greenlight, Alliance, and London College, have qualified for Wakiso District Qualifiers.

London College Nansana won 3-0 against Rochdale in the third-place classification tie to secure their spot in the Wakiso District championship.

Greenlight’s impressive tournament run saw them win all seven games, scoring a record 24 goals and conceding only two.

Midfielder Abud Razak Iradukunda was the tournament’s top scorer with seven goals.
