Gomba intensify preparations for 2025 Masaza Cup, squad unveiling set for this Sunday

As the 2025 Masaza Cup edition approaches, five-time champions Gomba are ramping up their preparations for a record-breaking sixth title.
This Sunday, June 8th, the Gomba Lions will unveil their 30-man squad in a highly anticipated event, which will feature a friendly match against Ssingo at Kabulasoke PTC.
With a largely revamped squad, boasting 93% new players, Gomba aims to overturn last year’s disappointing group-stage exit.
The team has bolstered its ranks with notable signings, including midfielder Michael Abura from Mawokota, forward Robert Ssewanyana from Buluuli, defender Herbert Onen from Buddu, and goalkeeper Julius Ssenyonjo from Ssingo.
William Kafeero (GK), forward Jeremiah Jabera and four others are the old faces on the team.
Under the stewardship of last year’s Masaza Cup-winning coach Simon Ddungu “Dunga”, Gomba is confident of success.
Ddunga will be assisted by Simon Gitta, Edgar Bwoogi, and Jamada Magaasi (goalkeeping). The team’s technical team is well-equipped to guide the players to victory.
Gomba’s last Masaza Cup triumph came in 2020 under tactician Ibrahim Kirya. Ten man Gomba beat Buddu 3-1 in the final at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
Charles Bbaale, Gift Fred and George Kaddu scored for Gomba while Titus Ssenatimba pulled one back Buddu.
The 2025 Masaza Cup edition will kick off on June 21st, with defending champions Buddu facing off against Gomba in the opening tie at Kitovu Sports Arena in Buddu.
With their revamped squad and experienced coaching staff, Gomba is poised to make a strong challenge for the title.
Gomba have won Masaza Cup tournament on five occasions. They won in 2004, 2009, 2014, 2017 and 2020.
