Fourteen year old shot stopper stars in Nansana ASKA win as holders Park FC make resounding statement in season opener

The 2024/25 betPawa Futsal Super League kicked off on Friday evening the 8th November at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena.

In the opening day, a 14 year old Owen Katende of Nansana ASKA made heroic saves in his side’s 5-2 win over Lubaga Grameen.

The St. Miriam High School Busabala and Star Light Academy S.1 shoot stopper was making his debut in the Betpawa Futsal Super League.

Defending champions Park FC made a resounding statement in their title defense in their 7-1 win over Mengo City.

Park FC dominated Mengo City 7-1 in their opener, showcasing their intent to retain the title they won last season in remarkable unbeaten fashion.

Joshua Aziku opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a precision strike. After the break, Abasi Junior Muluya scored a hat-trick, Aziku completed his brace, while Shafiq Mulangira and Michael Abura each added a goal. John Musasizi scored Mengo’s consolation in a losing effort.

Two debutants, Kabuusu Clouds and Crown Lubiri, also impressed with convincing wins.

Kabuusu Clouds obliterated Busunju Spaks 8-1, with Gaddafi Bazanyanengo scoring four times.

Najib Muwonge, Uthman Lule, and Derrick Tenywa also found the back of the net for Clouds.

Crown Lubiri, another debutant, held on to overcome Kisugu FC 5-3.

The Somali side, was inspired by Hassan Mohamud’s hat-trick to lead 3-0 at halftime.

They scored twice more early in the second half to lead 5-0 going into the last 10 minutes.

However, Kisugu’s late surge, scoring thrice in the last eight minutes turned the final score 5-3 as Crown secured their first victory.

Kisenyi, the last season’s runners-up, laboured past debutants QC Mbarara 7-5 in a 12-goal thriller. Ilyas Omran scored four goals in this classical show.

In the last game of the day, Kabowa Dream Team overcame Edgar’s Youth Programme 3-0

The 2024/25 betPawa Futsal Super League will resume next Friday with six games on Match day 2 at the Old Kampala Futsal Arena.

Match-day 1 Goal Statistics

A total of 47 goals were scored across six games. Kabuusu Clouds emerged as the highest scorer with 8 goals, while Edgar’s Youth Programme was the only side that failed to find the back of the net.
