
ForteBet Real Stars Sports Awards: Yasin Nasser, Muzamir Kakande and Mukundane win big
The ForteBet Real Stars Sports Awards ceremony was a night to remember, bringing together the country’s top sports achievers and legends at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo.
The event honored outstanding performances in various sports disciplines, with several athletes taking home prestigious awards.
Exceptional Performances
– Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba: The MOIL Rally Team crew was crowned the best in motorsport after their historic victory at the 2025 African Rally Championship in Morogoro, Tanzania.
They outperformed fellow nominees Ronald Ssebuguzi and Julius Ssemambo to claim the top accolade.
– Hillary Mukundane: The Vipers SC footballer had a standout month, scoring a crucial away goal against African Stars of Namibia and helping his team qualify for the second round of the CAF Champions League.
He beat competition from Vipers SC and Uganda Cranes’ play maker Allan Okello and SC Villa’s Ibrahim Kasinde.
– Muzamir “King Kong” Kakande: The boxer was recognized for his remarkable triumph in the British Commonwealth Silver Super Welterweight title fight against Briton Kevin Reavell.
Kakande stopped his opponent in the ninth round to extend his professional record to 13 wins, one loss, and one draw. He was represented at the event by his wife, Aminah Kakande.
Lifetime Achievement Award
– Ali Kavuma: The two-time Olympian and veteran weightlifter was honored with the Lifetime Achiever’s Award for his contributions to sports development in Uganda.
A respected coach who served between 1990 and 2003, Kavuma reflected on the growth of the sport, noting that despite previous decline, athletes like Davis Niyoyita continue to inspire the next generation. He expressed gratitude to the awards’ sponsors and the media for their continued support in promoting sports in Uganda.
