End of Rumors: New AUUS leadership clears allowances for student athletes who featured at FISU World University Games in Germany

Under the new leadership of George Wagogo, Senior Sports Tutor at Kyambogo University, the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) has cleared all allowances for Uganda’s student athletes who represented the country at the FISU World University Games Summer 2025 in Germany.

The athletes had been awaiting payment for their participation in the global event, which featured over 8,500 student-athletes from more than 150 countries competing in 18 sports.

The AUUS’s prompt action to settle the outstanding allowances has restored its credibility and demonstrated a renewed commitment to athlete welfare.

The new executive, led by Wagogo, convened a meeting with the old executives at Makerere University Swimming Pool on Monday, September 29, 2025, where they resolved the matter.

This move comes after athletes expressed disappointment and frustration over AUUS’s delays to honor its financial commitments.

By honoring these commitments, AUUS has reaffirmed the importance of supporting young Ugandans who fly the national flag on the global stage.

This development is a welcome relief for the student athletes, who proudly represented Uganda in Germany from July 16-27, 2025.

Uganda sent a strong delegation of 40 student athletes from 10 universities to participate in the FISU Games in Germany.

The team participated in sports such as swimming, athletics, tennis, and table tennis.
