The Crested Cranes’ bid to retain the CECAFA Women’s Championship title has been brutally extinguished following a 4-0 thrashing by Kenya on Tuesday evening at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

Kenya delivered a ruthless and clinical performance, scoring three goals in the first half and sealing the victory with a fourth goal in the second half.

Kenya’s Dominant Display

Diana Wacera opened the scoring in the 18th minute, before Violet Nanjala doubled the lead in the 26th minute.

Just two minutes later, Dorcas Sikobe added a third, leaving the Ugandan side reeling.

Martha Emedot then wrapped up the victory with an 81st-minute strike, condemning Uganda to their second defeat in the tournament.

Uganda’s Title Defense in Ruins

Despite a resounding 5-0 win over South Sudan in their second group game, the Crested Cranes’ title defense now lies in ruins.

With just three points from three matches, Uganda sits third in the group standings, behind Kenya and hosts Tanzania, who both have six points each.

Uganda’s final group match against Tanzania on Thursday will be played purely for pride and a possible improvement in their final standing.

CECAFA Championship Table

The stage is set for an exciting conclusion to the tournament, with Kenya and Tanzania emerging as the top contenders for the championship.

The team with the highest number of points at the conclusion of the round-robin format will be crowned 2025 CECAFA Women’s Champions.

As the tournament reaches its final stages, all eyes will be on Kenya and Tanzania as they battle it out for the top spot.

Uganda’s loss has added an element of unpredictability to the competition, and the final matchday promises to be an exciting conclusion to the tournament.
