Classy!: Ukasha Matovu, Owen Kibira lighten up weekend three of Boxing Champions League
Bombers Captain Ukasha Matovu (Ukasha Lee) of COBAP Boxing Club defeated Edward Mukwaya (Kiwatule Boxing Club) in weekend three of Uganda Boxing Champions League.
The glamorous boxing night filled with excitement and entertainment was held at Lugogo Indoor Arena on Saturday the 22nd June 2024.
The COBAP Lightweight boxer Matovu smartly humbled Kiwatule’s Mukwaya 5-0 by unanimous decision in the main fight of the day.
While talking to the media, Ukasha attributed his win to Allah; “I am so grateful to the most high. It’s always by hard work that I get hard but Allah clears my path.
I would like to thank my fans for coming and the support thrown. It’s always motivational hearing the chants from the crowd behind you”.
The other interesting bout which was prior to the main fight was between Lukanga’s Owen Kibira and Serugo Bashir from Zebra Boxing Club.
Kibira lightened up the Arena with an explicit knockout against Bashir Serugo just seconds into the first round.
Since switching to light Middleweight (71kgs), this became Kibira’s first fight in the Uganda Boxing Champions League under the new weight.
The pugilist has boxed the previous two seasons in the Welter 67Kgs category. However, Kibira previously lost National Open Gold after a defeat to Nerrick Tumusiime,
In the same weight, East Coast’s Depark Mawanda beat Ashraf Mutaasa of Mutajjazi by a 5:0 unanimous decision.
The Lightweight Elite 71Kgs shall be a category to watch with highly rated match ups from boxers Broline Kimbugwe and National Open Gold medalists Nerrick Tumusiime.
Elsewhere, the Heavyweight bout between Aziz Ringo of Kololo and James Baraka went 3-2 by split in favor of Ringo
In the boys Juniors, Kololo’s Mutwalib Mahab a Somalis’ decent edged Mudathir Uthuman from Namugoona in a Pin Weight 46Kgs contest.
Mandela Cup Bronze medalist Fatuma Nabikolo from Kololo Boxing Club was shocked after she lost her fight to Sauda Muhammed of Police in a Bantamweight 54Kgs in the ladies category.
Muhammed won the fight after a long review that led to a 4-3 split ruling by the judges only to send the Bomber into disbelief.
Meanwhile, Lukanga’s Swalla Halima beat Kemisa Hamza of Mutajjazi in a minimum 48Kgs Youth Ladies Contest.
The competition’s week Four will return on Saturday 6th July 2024 at Club Obligato.
