CAF CC: TP Mazembe suffer home defeat against Yanga
Ten-man TP Mazembe suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Young Africans (Yanga) on Sunday as they ended their TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
The Tanzanian club won the match in Lubumbashi to finish their Group D matches thanks to a second-half goal by Faridi Mussa.
Young Africans’ victory helped them to move to 13 points to temporarily occupy first place of the group pending the match between Tunisian side US Monastir and Real Bamako later on Sunday.
TP Mazembe finished the group stage in last place with just three points.
Young Africans had already secured their qualification to the quarter-finals together with US Monastir going into Sunday’s match and were determined to win the match.
The only goal of the match was scored by Mussa in the 63rd minute which was enough to secure all the points for Young Africans.
TP Mazembe players tried to restore parity after conceding the goal but they could not achieve that as their opponents were highly organized on the field.
Mazembe ended the match with 10 players after the referee sent off the attacker Alex Ngonga with a red card in the 90th minute after receiving a second yellow card.
