Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) have today Thursday, the 12th September officially opened the bidding for interested schools to host or co-host national championships from 2024 to 2028.

During the press brief held at GNS Hotel in Kampala, Rev. Duncan Mugumya who is the commissioner for Physical Education and Sports, declared the bidding to host the 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028 USSSA National games open to all regions and schools across the country.

“The year 2024 has been a successful one as far as school sports is concerned. The championships were well-organized. The number of participants that took part in this year’s championships was commendably high.

As the line commissioner, I commend USSSA for the job well done and due to their visible success, government is ready to support sports in schools more than before”. Rev. Duncan Mugumya

The bidding is for the five national championships which include the Elite Secondary School Games, Secondary School National Ball Games One, Secondary School National Football Boys Championship.

Secondary School National Swimming Gala and Secondary School National Ball Games Two / Athletics / Mind Games are the other two.

USSSA President Justus Mugisha emphasized the importance of joint bidding, where schools from the same district, zone, or region can come together to tender a bid for co-hosting the events.

“Co-hosting is currently ideal since the number of participants in these games increase every year.

National championships have lately attracted numbers as this year’s editions realized the most numerical success.

This year’s Elite Games had 1,271 participants, Ball Games I (Fresh Dairy Games)– 3,840 participants, Football Boys – 1,653 participants, Ball Games II and Athletics – 6,916 participants, Ball Games II and Mind Games – 2,356 participants and Swimming Gala – 338 participants.

Awarding of hosting rights will largely depend on infrastructure, safety, hygiene and schools’ capacity to accommodate numbers”.

Bukedea Comprehensive School and Amus College School were host for this year’s FEASSA.

Masaka SSS, Ndejje SSS, Seroma Christian High School, and Teso College Aloet Jinja SS were hosts for Elite Secondary School Games, Secondary School National Ball Games One, Secondary School National Football Boys Championship, Secondary School National Swimming Gala and Secondary School National Ball Games Two / Athletics / Mind Games

For the past four years, the USSSA National Championships have been rotating in the different regions of the country.

The Western Region hosted in 2018, Eastern in 2019, 2020 and 2021 were halted by COVID-19 and did not take place.

The games resumed in 2022 in Northern, 2023 in the Western and Central region.

If it is a school’s turn to host and they fail due to unpreparedness or failure to be ready by inspection time, another school or region can take up the slot but remains eligible to host when its turn comes.
