Fortebet Real Stars monthly sports awards nominees for February revealed
ForteBet Real Stars sports monthly awards list of February nominees has been released with the awarding ceremony set to take on Tuesday 7th at Route256 in Lugogo, Kampala.
The Eighteen (18) outstanding athletes from six (6) sports disciplines are nominated for February accolades.
Football, Rugby, Badminton, Rally, Athletics and basket ball shall have different athletes and each of the category winner will smile home with plaque and cash.
Yassin Nasser and his Navigator Ali Katumba who won the famous Mbarara rally headline the motorsport category. The duo registered 1:15:55:67 time.
Ronald Ssebuguzi and Mugambwa (1:20:12:50) and Duncan Mubiru with co-driver Bogele (1:21:37:92) who finished second and third respectively are the other nominees.
The athletics category has long distance runner Jacob Kiplimo, Joshua Cheptegei and Doreen Chesang.
Kiplimo ran for a gold at the 2023 World Cross Country championship held in Australia.
The long distance runner clocked 29min 17sec to cover 10km at Mount Panorama in Bathurst, Australia.
At the same event, Joshua Cheptegei bagged a bronze medal for Uganda in the same race.
The only female competitor against two men Doreen Chesang is on podium for having won the Source of the Nile marathon.
Football has the Hippos youngster Roger Mugisa and counterpart Patrick Kakande both have been on national duty at the ongoing TotalEnergies U20 AFCON in Egypt.
The Hippos duo face off with KCCA FC custodian Derrick Ochan.
The three Roger Mugisa and Patrick Kakande and Derrick Ochan have had impressive performances at their respective engagements.
The 17 year old Fadilah Shamika who won a gold medal at the recently concluded African Badminton championship in South Africa lead the Badminton nominees alongside Husinah Kobugabe and Brain Kasirye who won silver and bronze respectively at the same event.
The Basketball nominees are headlined by youthful Maria Najjuma, Otto Jones and Brenda Ekone.
The USA based player (Najjuma) was instrumental in the Uganda basketball national team “Gazelles” during the zone V Afro-Basket.
The Gazelles lost the final to African giants Egypt at MTN Arena in Lugogo, Kampala.
Despite the loss, the three guided Uganda to acquire a slot at the African basketball pinnacle event set to be held in Kigali Rwanda.
Elsewhere, Puis Ogenda, Karim Arinaitwe and Aaron Ofoyrwoth are the nominees for rugby.
Tuesday 7th March is set for the awarding event at at Route 256 restaurant in Lugogo.
